When I started Lance’s Corner, I promised myself that I would share my journey honestly, the successes, the mistakes, and everything I learn along the way.
Part of that journey is reading books that challenge the way I think about money, business, and personal growth.
The book I’m currently reading is Start Thinking Rich: 21 Harsh Truths to Take You from Broke to Financial Freedom by Dr. Brad Klontz and Adrian Brambila.
The First Chapter Hit Me Hard
The very first chapter doesn’t ease into the conversation.
The authors don’t sugarcoat it. They argue that living in poverty is incredibly difficult, and that changing your mindset is an important part of changing your financial future.
That opening immediately got my attention.
The authors also make another bold point. They argue that many people who struggle financially believe the system is completely rigged against them. Their message isn’t that life is always fair or that everyone starts with the same opportunities. Instead, they challenge readers to think about whether believing nothing can change keeps them from taking action to improve their own situation.
As I read that chapter, I found myself thinking about my own mindset.
It’s easy to blame circumstances or wait for the perfect opportunity. I’ve done that myself at different times in my life.
That doesn’t mean success is guaranteed or that everyone’s path is the same. It simply means I want to spend more energy focusing on what I can do rather than what I can’t.
For me, that’s one of the biggest lessons from the first chapter.
Instead of asking, “Why isn’t this working?”
I’m trying to ask,
“What’s one thing I can learn or improve today?”
That shift in thinking is one of the reasons I picked up this book in the first place.
I haven’t finished it yet, but it’s already making me stop and think differently about success. Instead of simply reading the pages and moving on, I wanted to share some of the lessons that are already having an impact on me.
Why I Picked Up This Book
One of the reasons I became interested in affiliate marketing is because I wanted to build something of my own.
I knew it wouldn’t happen overnight, and I knew I had a lot to learn.
Your mindset matters just as much.
That’s why this book caught my attention.
The title itself is bold. It doesn’t promise easy success. Instead, it suggests there are difficult truths that many people should not avoid if they want to achieve financial freedom.
That immediately made me curious.
The Biggest Lesson So Far
One lesson that’s already stood out to me is that changing your financial future often begins by changing the way you think.
It’s easy to believe that success comes from luck or finding the perfect opportunity.
This book challenges that idea.
It reminds me that our daily habits, decisions, and mindset often have a much bigger impact than we realize.
Reading that made me think about my own life.
Before starting Lance’s Corner, I spent a lot of time thinking about creating a blog.
I wondered if I knew enough.
I wondered if anyone would actually read my articles.
I wondered if I should wait until everything was perfect.
Looking back, waiting wouldn’t have helped me grow.
Starting did.
Success Doesn’t Happen Overnight
One thing I appreciate about this book is that it doesn’t make success sound easy.
Instead, it encourages readers to take responsibility for their choices and understand that meaningful change usually takes time.
That lesson fits perfectly with what I’m learning about affiliate marketing.
It’s easy to watch videos where people talk about making thousands of dollars online.
What’s much harder is building the habits that make long-term success possible.
Reading every day.
Improving your skills.
Staying consistent even when nobody is reading your content yet.
Those are the things that eventually create results.
Reading Isn’t Enough
One realization I’ve had while reading this book is that information by itself doesn’t change your life.
Action does.
Anyone can read a motivational book.
Anyone can watch another YouTube video.
Anyone can learn a new strategy.
But unless we actually apply what we learn, nothing changes.
That’s something I’m trying to remind myself every day.
After each chapter, I ask myself one simple question.
“What’s one lesson I can apply today?”
Even if it’s something small, taking action helps turn knowledge into progress.
How This Book Connects to My Journey
Some people might think a mindset book has nothing to do with affiliate marketing.
I actually think they’re connected.
Building an online business isn’t only about technology or marketing.
It’s also about patience.
Discipline.
Consistency.
Believing in yourself when results don’t appear immediately.
Those qualities aren’t learned overnight.
They’re developed over time.
That’s one reason I enjoy reading books like this while I’m building Lance’s Corner.
Every lesson helps me grow not only as someone learning affiliate marketing, but as a person.

I’m still making my way through Start Thinking Rich: 21 Harsh Truths to Take You from Broke to Financial Freedom, so I’m sure I’ll have more lessons to share in the future.
So far, the biggest takeaway isn’t about getting rich quickly.
It’s about becoming the kind of person who thinks differently, takes responsibility, keeps learning, and stays committed to long-term growth.
That’s exactly the mindset I want to develop as I continue building this blog and learning affiliate marketing.
If you’ve read this book, I’d love to know what lesson had the biggest impact on you. If you haven’t read it yet, I encourage you to think about this question:
What belief or habit is holding you back from becoming the person you want to be?
Sometimes changing our future begins by changing the way we think today.
